Cabrillo Playhouse’s Be a Wavemaker campaign has officially surpassed its $35,000 fundraising goal, thanks to hundreds of supporters and one final boost that arrived just in time.
In the closing days of September, with the start of Cabrillo’s 2026–27 season just days away, a generous Wavemaker stepped forward with an 11th-hour contribution that carried the campaign across the finish line.
The celebration continued October 2, when BeachFire hosted a fundraiser in conjunction with opening night of The Addams Family. Proceeds from the evening will be added to the campaign’s $35,350 total.
“What meant the most about this campaign wasn’t simply reaching $35,000,” said Will Minton, Cabrillo Playhouse board member for advancement. “It was seeing so many people who care about Cabrillo step forward to help us begin this ambitious new season on strong footing. Every gift, large or small, was a vote of confidence in what this theatre means to our community.”
Throughout the campaign, Cabrillo also thanked its supporters with three special prize drawings:

- The Phantom of the Opera at Segerstrom Center for the Arts: Charlotte and Lloyd Takahashi, longtime Cabrillo season ticket holders, won four orchestra seats to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece.
- Win Michael’s Parking Spot: Stephen King, another season ticket holder, won Producing Artistic Director Michael Lopez’s coveted parking space for one performance of every production this season.
- Dinner and a Show: Debbie Semonsen, one of Cabrillo’s loyal volunteers, won six dinners for two at local restaurants, one to enjoy with each production in Cabrillo’s 2026–27 season.
Thank you to everyone who donated, participated in the drawings and helped spread the word. We did it!
