Cabrillo Playhouse Announces Directors for 2026-2027 Season

Following the announcement of its 2026-2027 season earlier this year, Cabrillo Playhouse has finalized the creative teams that will bring each production to life. From a classic musical comedy and heartfelt friendships to outrageous farce, contemporary drama, and an interactive mystery, the season promises a wide range of theatrical experiences for audiences throughout the year.

The Addams Family
October 2-November 1, 2026

Michael Lopez will direct The Addams Family.

The season opens with The Addams Family, the musical comedy based on the beloved characters created by Charles Addams. Featuring a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the story finds Wednesday Addams bringing her “normal” boyfriend home to meet her delightfully unconventional family, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening of secrets, surprises, and laughter. The production will be directed by Producing Artistic Director Michael Lopez, whose recent credits include directing Cabrillo’s acclaimed production of Company. Joanna Tsang-Segelson serves as choreographer, with Marc Marger as musical director.

The Salonnières
November 13-December 13, 2026

Angela Cruz will direct The Salonnières.

Written by Liz Duffy Adams, The Salonnières is a witty comedy inspired by the remarkable women who hosted the influential literary salons of 17th-century France. Filled with sharp dialogue and larger-than-life historical personalities, the play celebrates friendship, intellect, and the power of ideas. It will be directed by Angela Cruz, a UC Irvine MFA directing graduate whose recent credits include Symbiotic at Curtis Theatre and Medea at Chapman University.

The Savannah Sipping Society
January 8-January 31, 2027

Ben Green will direct The Savannah Sipping Society.

The heartwarming comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten follows four women who unexpectedly form lasting friendships while navigating life’s next chapter. Filled with humor and heartfelt moments, the play celebrates new beginnings, resilience, and the importance of community. Director Ben Green returns to Cabrillo after helming last season’s hit production of The Cottage and is also a Resident Artist at Chance Theater.

The Legend of Georgia McBride
February 26-March 21, 2027

Michael Lopez will direct The Legend of Georgia McBride.

Matthew López’s acclaimed comedy follows an Elvis impersonator whose career takes an unexpected turn when he discovers an unlikely talent as a drag performer. Funny, uplifting, and full of heart, the play explores identity, family, and finding the courage to embrace change. The production will be directed by Producing Artistic Director of Cabrillo Playhouse Michael Lopez.

The SpongeBob Musical
April 16-May 16, 2027

Eric Modyman will direct the SpongeBob Musical.

Based on the popular Nickelodeon series, The SpongeBob Musical features a book by Kyle Jarrow and an eclectic score by a wide range of contemporary artists. When a volcanic eruption threatens Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob and his friends must work together to save their home in a joyful, imaginative adventure filled with optimism and unforgettable music. The production will be directed by Eric Modyman, who has directed numerous Cabrillo favorites, including The Birds, Puffs, and The Importance of Being Earnest.

Clue
June 4-June 27, 2027

Frank Minano will direct Clue.

Based on the classic board game and the Paramount Pictures film, Sandy Rustin’s stage adaptation of Clue is a fast-paced comedy mystery packed with colorful suspects, clever twists, and nonstop laughs. When a murder occurs during a dinner party at a secluded mansion, everyone becomes a suspect in a race to solve the mystery. Director Frank Minano brings decades of theatrical experience to the production, including numerous award-winning productions and previous Cabrillo favorites such as Leading Ladies and Comedy of Tenors.
